    I don't have the whirring sound.....YET!

Glad everything worked out for you though mate?
Just on your symptoms mate, I had a similar thing a while ago and my problem was actually a loose ball joint. I had steering problems obviously, but one of the problems was knocking sounds and a tiny bit of awkward engine jerking/movement when it was loose.

The belt should of course be checked at the next service, or if there are any other symptoms.

I personally dont believe in doing jobs that do not need doing or taking peoples money to no good purpose.

Hope the car is going well and that you have many ks or trouble free motoring.

How does a dogbone mount (which was not knocking so was still serviceable) and a pressure relief valve cause an engine mount bolt to snap ?

If it was the dog bone mount then the actual mount would snap at the thinnest point and the one with the most load which is generally the upper part of the gearbox mount . The bolts when tightened to the correct torque will not move and created too much friction between the engine mount and the mount carrier . What your saying is that the bolts are weaker than the rubber engine mount ? Can you please give some technical evidence to your claim cause otherwise its an assumption .

So the cover was touching the tensioner wheel , but somehow managed to miss the belt . hmmm , interesting . Lots of noise but no damage , hmm , did you remove everything and check it ? Surely with something grinding there was some component being damaged ?

I dont beleive in giving a car back with the risk of something failing catastrophically . When I worked at Audi we had an a4 come in that snapped a timing belt on the freeway . Rods went through the block and Audi provided a whole new motor .
I think hoping the car gives many kms of trouble free service is one thing , guaranteing your work is another .

I see your not answering any of my questions so I'll put them simply :

    1) There are 2 bolts holding the mount to the bracket , one was snapped , what happened to the other one ?

    2) You say the DV caused it to fail . How ?

    3) You say it had a tired dogbone mount , do you realise that when the drivers side mount is broken its actaully sitting on the dogbone mount ? What brings you to this conclusion given that the engine was resting on the dogbone mount and finding any evidence of what happened before the bolts came undone is nearly impossible ?

    4) what parts did you change ?

    5) will you warrant the job for at least the next 2 years considering the mount and bracket should have been replaced ?

Also to note , the car is not chipped making approx 85kw atws . My S3 with standard mounts incl dogbone made 240+ and I never had this issue !

Please answer these Questions Mr Loon cause me and a few other people are curious

What is the objective behind this questioning? All I can tell from is it that there seems to be conjecture over a failing part on a car from 2 mechanics, 1 that has assessed the work and another that has not seen the car.

It is coming across to me that this is nit picking, I am for one interested to see a service bulletin that you suggest explains the scenario that was experienced.

I feel that your posts are loaded, however, if Matt wishes to answer them he can. If someone else feels more strongly about it, they may be edited.

To the OP: Glad that it was sorted out for you, sorry that you had a failure.
