Did I do anything...? Cruise Control experts advice .. and OBD2 software advice ...

    Hi

I have finally managed to squeeze my ans420 unit in and it is a beauty.
Not and easy install, but worth it.

I noticed this week that my cruise control isn't working though. Not sure if I could have affected something when installing the unit...? I wasn't fiddling anywhere except where the stereo goes, but I did have to push some wires around in there.

The Cruise control light switches on and off on the stalk, but the Set does nothing.

I found this thread and followed Jmac's advice -
    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...ion-16285.html

I checked the Brake Pedal switch and it is working well, including powering off the engine (to an idle) and checked all the fuses.

I'll try the fix here next === VWFANATIC ===

I have some Proscan software, but it is refusing to cooperate with my laptop at the moment.

Has anyone had experience with OBD Autodoctor? I installed the demo version and it worked well but would only tell me about Stored diagnostic codes, not present ones - fair enough for a demo.

There was one stored one that was interesting - P0501 Powertrain - Vehicle Speed Sensor Range/Performance

If someone recommended the full version, I'd pay the $45 to buy it - or does someone recommend something else?

I just wondered if anyone else had an idea of my lack of cruise... If so, send it my way,

    Thanks, Scott

Still could be the stalk you have to check the measured values while operating all buttons to see if they register a signal. And if its a manual you should also check clutch switch.

Grtuned is on the money i think

We were replacing stalks left right and center not too long ago, It sucks too because i ve had a few where it can read most functions of the stalk but will still not work, new stalk and works like a charm.

Good to see another proper techie , your tech help is most welcome. I must admit i post a lot less tech now , one dont have the time and 2 well probably wont venture there.
Refreshing to have you here. Anyway i agree on the clutch switch if the brake pedal is checking out but i too have fitted many stalk switches.
Bundabora good luck, answered your pms as quick as poss but just cant get to all of them as the workload is off the chain at the moment. I would be seeking someone with VCDS and read the clutch pedal functions with live data. If the 2 switches to tally up as being ok its more than likely the stalk. Only other way its faulty is the Cruise is not enabled in the ECU but it really has to be physically coded out for that to be the case
    Anyway good luck

Thanks Jmac! Good to be here. Yeh i m still a bit hesitant about what i post, i could ramble on about these dsg issues and the 1.8L turbo engine oil concerns but i can see it coming back and me left trying to answer a 'please explain' from the higher ups. But its good to know that there are techies on here too.

Mate dont worry about rambling, i changed so many 20v engines in the very beginning due to oil pressure dramas and gearboxes? mate we were rambling about them backin MK1 and Mk2 so nothing has changed mate, they are great but like any other car theyhave an achilles heel.
Anyway Bundabora let us know how you go mate, as mentioned the clutch switch needs to be checked with Measured values therefore needs a good level of scanner, most good ones will read it but VCDS will tell you what you what your are reading if that makes sense.
    Cheers!

Thanks Jmac, I just ordered a VCDS from Dubaddiction, for this and future needs, so hopefully I will know soon, once I understand the program... Cheers, Scott

I just wanted to say that I'm very grateful for all tech advice on this forum.
Jmac and Jamesdavid thank you for your posts. I appreciate reading them even though I don't have any issues with my cruise control.
