Also you dont have to get the latest and best, any S3 in good condition would be awesome..

I'm faced with the same thing so not winding anyone up, just have to enjoy it for what it is with some light mods, or buy something faster.. my 2c.

Can you get dyno graphs before and after? It's the only way you'll really know how much of a gain you got...

It was just a realistic alternative before throwing heaps at it, but am all for improvements if it doesn't detract from the car.

I would say mill 3,4mm out/off the factory upper down pipes that bolt to the head-give it a good gasket match. And then the lower down pipes I have seen guys cut the flanges off and go with 2 true 2.25 mandrel bend pipes down to the cats. I think bmf still sells the 2nd half custom down pipes and i think usp does too. Or spend big bucks on headers!

I think cams would be a good starter for the head work- I think fusion is selling a set of R32 cams-suprised no ones has picked them up. I also have plenty of pics for a R32 custom exhaust if u need some ideas. Cheers J

    Headwork?

    Read this:

    http://www.cncheads.co.uk/vw_r32.html

    I like this bit:
"Our gas flow measurements show that it has very good inlet flow but there was a lot of room for improvement on the exhaust side. After a challenging and extensive period on the flow bench we were able to raise the Inlet flow by 6% to 161.6 CFM. On the exhaust side we were able to make a huge increase of 30% to 129CF. This level of flow means this engine is capable of over 400BHP in normally aspirated form."
