Damn Fishing trip turns to s*#t!!!!!!!

me and too mates decided to head down to Brooklyn, NSW for a spot of fishing, took the bora down for a nice drive.

Day went well didnt catch anything, as we were leaving...BOOM, i rear end a camry. It was my fault and i wont deny that. Car was hit right where the intake pipe is, front left side, the guard is dented, bonnet looks outta place, bodykit dented.

Car drove like normal until we hit hornsby. At that point it started to sound like a WRX, and there was a drastic decrease in power. I pulled over to investigate, i originally though the intake pipe was blocked and there was not enough air getting through. I unscrewed the pipe away from the airfilter and tried to see how it went. No difference at all, further investigating showed that the pipe did not seem to be blocked at all. Why after a minor and upsetting prang why is my car sounding and driving like crap.

I called matt aka loon, (sorry for a sunday call mate, thanks for the help guys) and his mate advised me it maybe the mass air intake sensor thats gone. Any ideas guys.

Other than that ive been sitting in the garage depressed looking over the damage. ARGHHHHH

    Insured?

If it makes you feel any better - Me and my mate went for a nice fishing trip yesterday and he ended up being busted doing 149 in a 110zone on his green Ps. Car just picked up speed going down a hill didnt even realise.
    6 month holiday from driving @ $1700. :|

Cheapest way to test is firstly, disconnect the plug on the back of the maf. This will either prove:
    A. It's not the MAF if it's still running like a WRX
    B. If it returns to running fairly normal your MAF is not registering enough air flow past it. Since you pranged it, I'm more incline to think you have an air leak after the MAF. Get yourself a bright torch and follow your intake back looking for a split hose where air can get in bypassing the MAF. If that all checks out then you may have a stuffed MAF.

I disconnected the MAF and car wouldnt start up. Plugged it back in and it still runs like a wrx with no power

That's weird. I know that works on the 1.8T. Could you see a possible air leak after the MAF. Since the intake was damaged, the sudden hit may have disconnected it else where allowing air in bypassing the maf?

I don't care if you're going down a hill, but you definately would know if you were doing 149 clicks (unless you're in a large family car V8 stock as a rock with a smooth torque range).
