    CV joints greasing.

Does anyone know how easy it is to grease the inner cv joints? I'm thinking by the look of it that i need a special tool to remove the outer clamps.

    Cheers

    Hi,

If they are the same on the Bora as on the Golf, I believe that it is simply a 7mm allen key.

Unless you have busted a CV boot or something similar that would cause the grease to escape....why do you need to grease them?

I thought they are this weird clip thing. The boots are fine its just flung the grease everywhere. I cant feel any inside.

Then unless you've replaced the boot there's probably a split in it somewhere, they shouldn't normally spill any grease.

The grease can't get out if the boot it in tact. If you have grease everywhere then the boot is probably torn.

After having another look i can almost defiantly say that the boots are fine and that the clip isn't tight enough.

    Heres some pictures for proof.

So now i gotta go talk to joe about getting them repacked. Stupid clip required a special tool i think.

They do need a special tool and you can't reuse them. new ones come with the kit vw supply which is a new boot, grease and a clip they cost about $40 I know because I've just replaced mine. I used a special pair of vice grips which allowed me to get enough tension on the clamp

they are the stupid one-use clamps? I can't see the pics as i am at work, but in nearly every application of the clamps I am told that zip ties work just as fine or better.

Zip ties will only work if the boots are of the flexi rubber type, hard rubber or the VW Plastic ones will and do pop the boot back off. I agree these clamps are naff if not out on with the proper tool. Cant beat the original type clamps with again the right tool

    Hi again,
I used to work for a company called Driveline Services "www.driveline.com.au" who actually sell the proper bands and clamping tool....from memory (was a few years ago) the proper clips were worth cents each and the tool wasn't much either. Maybe give them a call, they now have branches pretty much all over oz.
