    cutting out problem

mk 4 gti, 2003, ko4, vr6 maf, 3" exhaust, 18" wheels 3 bar fuel regulator, stock intercooler, giac chip

now for the problem, the car has cutting out for some unknown reason. it seems as if the is cutting out for safety reason but i have asked and has the engine checked by just about every one i know and they cant find out why.
it happens when your on boost and when your just crusing down the road off boost.

can any one shed some light on this problem?

Is it throwing any codes ? Man I think we should make mandatory to ask for codes Hehe

If it's off boost doesn't sound like it has much to do with turbo thus it could be MAF/Coil's etc.

Can you clarify cutting out ? Completely dead ? any lights on the dash when this happens ? Does the car just restart ? or is it just stalling for a second and than coming back ?

When it cuts out i cant re start the car till about 10 min after it happends.
as for codes its throwing throttle body code so i bought a brand new one and its still throwing that code. there are lights on the dash all electronics work as fair as in side the car. the car starts fine its just cuts out as soon as it starts. you can keep it going by lightly tapping on the throttle but is soon as you take your foot off it dies. ie starts for a sec then dies. is there something in the car that wont let you drive due to something wrong internally that would calm down after 10min or so.

I think all Aus MK4 GTIs have a cable throttle not wires. Try turning the ignition on but not starting the engine. This should make the throttle body align itself.

The only other thing that rings a bell is the immobiliser but that would allow the car to run for a second then cut out.

I think you should scan the Immobiliser too. I don't think it comes up in the engine ECU.

i agree with gavin, it sounds like an immobiliser issue, hopefully only a reader coil. i will be interested if there are any fault codes for any control units, please let us know...........

how would you find out if it is the control unit? i first thought that the immobilizer would be from the car key so i used my 2nd key and it still cut out. what can make the car become emmobilzed?

Even if you used your second key, it may be something to do with whats in the car. Do a scan on the immobilizer module... as Gavin say's, though I tend to think the problem may lay elsewhere if you are able to prevent it by keeping your foot on the throttle, mean's it may not be idling properly.

I guess, have you tried removing MAF ? Did you do a TB alignment ?

Is the car warm when it dies or is it just from a cold start ? If it is warm maybe a coolant temp sensor ?

Could it be a Vacuum leak controlling some air/fuel ratio's and when you put your foot on it lightly you are manually giving it more fuel thus stopping the car from stalling and maybe reading a low fuel pressure until it is reset. Can you see any fuel leaks ?
