cruise not working :o

i took the golf for the first lon distance spin yesterday since ive had it, and was disappointed to find that the cruise control was not working

ive cheked the two fuses which control it and there fine, so im stumped on what it would be

any sugestions anyone?

Yes mate try this, drive along and keep your foot on the acc and with your left foot press the brake and it should cut the fuel off to the engine. If this doesnt happen then your Brake pedal switch is faulty. Very common fault this.
This switches off your cruise and if it is faulty the cruise will stay off.

when i press the brake pedal what should i look for? as in what is suposed to happen?

when the cruise is on, theres no light on or anything...

same prob as me,,,, its your blinker stalk!!! you will find in time the blinker starts going haywire!!!

Yeah I have same problem with my MK4 GTI, sometimes it seems to not want to work, other times its fine. However I also have problem where if I have it engaged and I go over bumpy road it dis-engages :-s

I thought mine wasn't working the first time I tried to use it but I son discovered I wasnt pushing the switch long enough. Were you holding it out for a good 3 seconds?

yher kept it down for a while and no go...

anything else other than the indicator stalk? dont want to go to the trouble and expense of buying one and it turns out to be something else...

just went for a strap and tried the brake thingy suggested and held down the set button for a good 5-10 secs and still nothing

either something wrong with the connections or the stalk

The 99 models never had a light that came on for the cruise to begin with. I think it's there but was never programed into the ECU.

I'm not to sure what you should be looking for with pressing the break. I know it disengages the cruise but not sure how to test the switch like was mentioned earlier,

Check your clutch pedal switch. It is the type that you can pull out to reset. Mine wouldnt come on because it was set incorrectly.
