    cracked windscreen - options?

okay this is the latest update in my bad luck with the golf - a carcked windscreen...

happened today during a quick country drive, i reckon someone threw a rock at the car as the sound was rather loud and was not in an area with dirt roads etc etc... god im annoyed

just wondering what my options are in relation to fixing this crack, ive heard of places like windscreen obrien etc etc bein able to fix cracks such as these, however as you can seen in the photo, the centre of it has gone a grey colour which i assume is something to do with the factory glass tint

if this is not possible to fix, what is a rough price on a new windscreen?

    cheers, dan

I'm getting a new windscreen for my mk 1 golf installed and everything for $220, although most other quotes were closer to $250, I'm unsure, but it the golf 4 windscreen is bonded( ie glued in), it will cost more to get it replaced.

My advice is to just ring around, get a few quotes then pit them against each other, although most don't advertise, you should be able to get some places that will match or beat other quotes.

I don't think that's going to be a repair job, but get it checked out anyway and the sooner the better.

I found when I last had a windscreen replaced that the price the o'brien chick quoted when I booked the car in, and the price I actually paid was significantly different. That was in a very common (much more so that a golf) car.

Have a talk to the actual fitter and see what the price actually is, and yeh, just do a bit of a ring around.
I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

Wouldn't it be strange if you had windscreen cover added to your insurance policy and then had this damage happen in a couple of weeks time?????

Previous owner had a palm branch fall and crack the windscreen (plus two pin dents in the roof which bug the hell out of me). He had the windscreen replaced with O'Brien. The price was $350. However the windscreen has the rain sensor attached to it. I don't know if yours does but I'd say without it, it would be a bit cheaper. Hope this helps and gives you a rough idea.

put the words in my mouth. its a 50$ p/a over the phone thing. if they get sus jsut say your mate's windscreen got smashed by hoons and you got scared

in the meantime stick one of those round stickers on it that stop the crack from spreading.
