    Clutch and thrust bearing question

So i replaced my clutch with an ECS Stage 1 kit this weekend. While installing the new thrust bearing into the clutch fork the plastic clip broke off the back of the bearing (fail), so in a panic i just put the old thrust bearing back in. It had all the same dimensions and was in good condition.

Now once the engine has warmed up i have a bit of a rattle sound when giving the engine a bit of a rev. When i press the clutch though it disappears. I was just wondering, is the thrust bearing always in contact with the pressure plate fins, thus always rotating? or is there supposed to be a spring or something of sorts pulling the clutch fork away from the pressure plate?

Mine makes a hideous noise at idle. I consider it normal. Usually worse if the ac is running.

It's a 99 golf gti, why would it chatter with no load on it?

They just do, some worse than others. The bearing in mine was less than 4 months old, minimal KMs. Blew the motor and rebuilt with a stage 3 clutch. Reused the bearing and it sounds rough as.

Too big a job to pull the box just to do the bearing.

AC increases the load on the engine, same as when the fans kick in. The alternator is working harder and that means the ECU regulates the idle to stop it stalling.

What weight is the flywheel? Anything less than 20lbs you will have chatter. The lighter you go the louder it gets.

The Single mass flywheel is known to cause noise, they put in a dual mass for a reason. So now you have some more character
