Clutch pickup point

Hi all,

Having driven another Bora as a comparison, I'm a little concerned about my clutch.

Specifically, the pickup point. The other car I drove has its clutch pickup point right near the end of the travel (with the clutch almost fully depressed), whilst in my car, the pickup point is almost immediate (right at the top of the travel).

What is considered normal for the Bora (V6 4Motion), and if my car isn't normal, is the pickup point adjustable, or am I looking at a potential problem?

i think in all cars the pickup point is adjustable. Not sure how they do it but have had several of my cars clutches adjusted to where i like it.
Think they can also adjust the distance over which it operates.
ie a short or long travel.

The clutch travel isn't adjustable, it's all designed in. They only way it would vary is by the use of different components.

Was the other Bora a 4-mo?

Rob, I was talking to him last night about the difference...I wondered about this before because my clutch is like yours, and I changed it in October. Apparently, it can be heaps different for every car of the same make, brand, year, whatever. Someone told me it has something to do with the bleeding of the slave cylinder (because our cars both have hydraulic clutches). I've not driven one VR6 with the same clutch.

Isn't it normally the higher the take up point the more worn the clutch? Does this apply to our dubs?

I'd say the same, in the least its an indication of a significant clutch wear. My own VR6 with 74k has a firm clutch with some difference in travel but it hardly picks up anywhere near the end as you describe, how many km's has the car traveled?

Trent, that's what I thought too but it just couldn't be right because I replaced my clutch and the grab point didn't go any further down. If anything, the clutch felt lighter..

Just over 95,000km now.

Where was your pickup point to start with? The force required to move the clutch pedal isn't necessarily related to the pickup point unfortunately.
