Clutch peddle issues

Well at the traffic lights today i had the joy of my clutch mechanism breaking and my peddle dropping to the floor.
After being push through the lights i found that the previous owner was kind enough not to leave the removable towing eye for me .....ahhhh good times.
I think i will just get a mate to weld the broken piece of metal back on a get a new plastic clip from vw.
How hard a job is it to get the clutch peddle off and back on again?

its not too bad you will need to use cable ties to hold the spring down/compressed to make it easyer to get back in. its not too hard a new pedal is only like 60 or so $$$ from vw any ways.

I know exactly how you feel as it happened to my Bora just recently. I took it to VW Barloworld in Five Dock to fix and they charged me about $500 to get it fixed! They reckoned I had bent the shaft going into the Master Cylinder when the preddle collapsed so they had to straighten it. They also said it was quite a time intensive job to remove the clutch peddle to replace the bush and peddle. Most of the charge was in labour.

I would love to know if it was infact a simple job and they just ripped me off. I'm not sure I'd have any legal recourse if that is the case, but I did feel I might be being taken for a ride with it all.

took me at home about 1.5 hours to do and i just gave it a stab, never done one before. yep you got ripeed

Is it best to put the cable ties on the spring when the peddle is all the way down or when you pull it back up?

Mine collpased to the floor after a myriad of problems. Dean at Volkspower fixed mine for me, he did it for a Very good price.

So I would suggest you got totally ripped dude.

did they replace the clutch master at that price?

same thing happened to me, and i believe that its actually better to reweld the metal tab back on as it ends up stronger than a new one...

i however was lazy and didnt have easy acess to a welder so i just replaced mine with a new one...

if you buy the pedal, it comes with the white plastic clip which fits onto the master...

yes it is a fiddly job, but not $500 worth!

I have order the parts from VW today so will hopefully be able to get into it over the next few days. I am not sure of the actual VW part numbers but the parts you need are #10 & #7 from the dealers drawings.

I would also suggest they run a weld on the new pedal, i have with the last couple ive done, the tacks Vw put on the pedal are quite dung and dont last, and when all the other variables get added like heavy pressure plate etc the life of the pedal reduces
