i have posted here a couple of times in the past, trying to sort out a front LHS suspension noise.
Over the past year i have had 8 (yes eight) mechanics put this thing on hoists to try to work it out.
They all told me i was mad. I have even had friends want to buy it, but i knew something was not quite right.
Last weekend, whilst doing 100kmp on east link, it worked itself out - YES THE MAIN STUD BOLT SNAPPED!!!
ended up with only the brake calliper holding disc - thus wheel on!!!
went to a place in church street richmmond - genuine, helpful guy, he took $1200.00 off me, but did give me new stud, bearing, hub, flange, cv joint.
anyone else had this happen!!!

Good to see you ended up OK, but i suppose the one good thing that came out of this is that you finally knew what the problem was, even if it meant the wheel basically falling off
I have heard of wheel studs failing on a friends MkIV 2.0, but that's because the wheel shop that fitted her 18" audi wheels drastically went over the
120Nm specified torque setting!! Never heard of your issue but again, bolts only snap if:
a) They are the wrong grade (automotive MUST be a minimum 8.8 grade for stressed components)
b) the material was under specification, although this is VERY unlikely
c) The bolt has been over tightened with too much torque put on it.
I would be wary that this was your problem, if people have been looking and pulling things apart in this area, don't be surprised if this is a result of one of the 8 mechanics having a look at it, especially as many of the suspension bolts are required to be replaced if they're ever taken out. Trust me, this is very important, I have seen bolts snap quite easily on suspension components after being removed and put back in a few times.
Mechanics will very rarely tighten things the way they're supposed to, like doing things up with a bloody rattle gun, not a torque wrench!
