central locking not working after new head unit install

hey guys, so after much swearing and cursing i got the new head unit and amp installed today but now the buttons on my key fob are dead.

tried the 2nd fob and same thing.

i used an iso connector for the wiring loom on the HU so there wasnt any extra wires that missed being connected.

    what have i done???????????? grrrrrrr!!!

    any ideas????

    cheers.

No wires are missing connection but there should be. The cable thats inbetween the second 12v constant source and the speed line (GALA) the K-line should not be connected to anything otherwise it can stuff up the locking system. Ill try and find the site that explains it.

Heres the site have a quick read on the one with the k line the black connection.

Also make sure that you check the yellow and red wiring so that your headunit doesn't reset when you turn the car off. They should have to be switched.

Hope that helps and is an easy fix

okay so just to make sure im doing the right thing i should remove the k line from the harness and make sure its isolated.
then swap the yellow and red wires to stop the HU reseting?

Yeah well the easier option is to remove the wire from the other side so that if you put your stock unit back in it will still work fine. Most connectors have a loop that comes from the adjacent connector usually blue. Just use some needle nose pliers to remove the one connected to the k-line it should hopefully work.

And yeah if the head unit keeps forgetting everything after you turn the car off the red and yellow wires need to be swapped along the way as for what ever reason VW changed it on the iso connector.

The new ISO loom will come with plain red and a plain yellow wire with inline male and female bullet connectors already in place,we have to swap these over so that yellow now goes to red,and red will now go to yellow. If we don’t do this then the unit will still switch on and work ok,but when we switch off then it will lose everything stored in its memory and return to its default settings when we switch on again.
Make sure you don’t have anything connected to the grey/white wire to the right of it,if you do you may find that important functions such as central locking and electric windows no longer work.

the iso connector did have the loop so just removed it but still no good.

    any other ideas?

the red and yellow seem to be in the right spots as its remembering its settings btw

okay so having read the article from How to upgrade the stereo in mk.4 Golfs/Boras. - uk-mkivs over and over i tried disconnecting the antenna control wire which goes to the red and white wire on the cars original loom.

and wouldnt you know it i got my central locking back. WOOHOO!

so for all future readers make sure you have no connection to either the k line (grey/white) OR the power line (red/white)

AND you'll need to swap the red and yellow wires so the head unit remains powered while the car is off

thanks BDS i was starting to lose it there.

Haha its good fun isn't it . German cars and there wiring make little sense. So did yours have a connection to the line next to the k-line? I think i removed the entire blue loop so both connections as it didn't make sense that my head unit would be feeding straight into a 12v source for the amplifier or antenna. Mine had the boosted antenna allready on it on the spare hole in the ISO connection on the car side to i wired that cable to that as stated in my head unit.

So did it start forgetting the settings or was it just the internal battery keeping it going?

I'm glad to be of some help haha. Just had all the fun myself just need the cradle for my double din though.

Still puzzling how that messed the central locking lol.

yes much fun! NOT!!!! mate i would of just thrown my hands up in the air and lived with it without these forums.

far as i can tell having the power antenna wire from the HU wired straight to the k line was keeping it powered continually so no loss of settings etc but no locks either! lols

so once the antenna wire was gone no continuous power and no settings

ive still gotta swap the wires for the ignition and 12v continuous but i ran out of light so it'll have to wait

mate thanks again for the info
