    hi guys..

im looking to buy a mk4 but was wondering about the car keys if they have a chip in them or not?

how much is it roughly to get a 2nd key cut?

Keys have a RF chip in them for the immobiliser.

Do a search in the MK4 forum for 'KEY' in the title and you will find the information that you seek.

If you still have both your kidneys, consider selling one on the black market and you might just be able to afford a key......Depending on the going rate of a kidney these days....

    Hey mate,

I got a spare key cut about 6 months ago and, from memory, it was around $208 +$60 to be programmed. This was for the plain key, no remote functions. The remote control key was around $450-500 from memory.

I think you'll probably have to buy the actual key from VW, then they will have to program it. Get your wallet ready

I will have mk4/mk5 keyfob+blade available soon. OEM and considerably cheaper, maybe 40-50% cheaper!

You will need to get the blade cut here, $30-60 + the responder chip programmed with vw but it would knock the cost of a spare key down considerably in comparison from VW Direct.

not sure if this makes mine cheaper but my GTI only has the key + light not the keyless entry. Still the same process?
