Just saw this thread: http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/206965/1339035.aspx
apparently you can code the keys using VAG-Tacho and VAG-Com. Wonder if anyone on here has done it before?
i've come across this when going to look at mk4s as well...

It would be cheaper than a remote locking key fob, but it will still have a transponder chip in the key for the immobiliser to recognise, hence the hefty price tags.
My 1st car was a commodore and the transponder chip was inside the key fob itself, so you could get the metal key component cut for $4 at any good key cutter (like the one I used to work at...) and then just buy the key head for $40 and screw the new key into it. Holden charged $90 for a whole new key to be cut, but $40 just for the key head alone..
One instance where an aussie car company has it over the germans....

would this keyless entry work?

it would still need transponder in the key thought right?
or what about this one?

says theres is no transponder
im not to sure what a transpponder is exactly.. my golf never came with the keyless remote..
probably easier to get an aftermaket remote fitted hey..?

I have obtained a blank programmable key for my MKIV Golf, but am unable to find anywhere that can program it for me. Can anyone recommend somewhere in Melbourne where I can get this done, and how much it will cost to get the key CUT and PROGRAMMED?
Cheers
