Ok, started my car up this morning in N and went to shift into first and the gear stick wouldn't go in. It wasn't crunching or anything, just really stiff and wouldn't go in. Turned the car off and it went into first fine. Turned it back on and started to drive down the road, went to shift into 2nd and the same thing. Rolled to a stop and couldn't get first, turned car off and back into first. Started it up again and got up to speed, tried to get any gear but all the same, with a bit of revving it free'd up 4th and was able to crunch into gear. Drove down to father's place in 4th and have parked it.
Any ideas?
It will cycle through all gears including reverse but when you start the car it's as if the gearbox becomes locked and no gear can be selected. No crunching, just so stiff that it wont go into any gear you try...

I agree sadly. If your shift cable ends are even one tiny click out of adjustment it makes it hard to select gears in the H pattern, but if it works with the engine off, that isn't the culprit.

Yeah clutch is looking likely. Been talking to a few people today. Will have that checked at first.
