Red face CanBus adapter for 03 MK IV

Can anyone help.... my daughter has a 03 Mk IV Golf with the standard stereo and wants to replace it with aa Kenwood or Alpine etc. The local stereo guys say we must also install a canbus converter which will be about $200 without labour...

Does this sound correct? Also do we need to put 6"or 6.5"speakers in the front and rear.

    Thanks for anyones help.

Not sure about that, unless the '03 Golf is completely different to the '02 Bora. I changed the stereo in my car myself, did not require any convertors.

Can bus started with the MK5 AFAIK.
I have had various audio gear in my MK4 and it wires up just like any other, some models had issues with the K-line, but it is an easy fix.

As previously said, mk4s didn't have canbus only mk5s. The plugs are standard black and brown euro plugs too,,just needs two wires switched around but all audio shops should be able to do that with bora fuss.

The only thing in a mk4 thats can bus would be the cd changer. You would need a converter if you wanted that running again. As with others i installed a avic unit into mine with no drama's Just dont hook up the k-line and switch the red and yellow

Also did anyone else read it as a mk3? Probably not haha

This is correct. There is no CAN-BUS in the Mk4.

    Find another installer.
    Nothing to see here...
