hi all,
Just seeing if anyone can help me, i'm looking at supercharging or turbocharging my mk 4 golf.
I can't seem to find anything lol its only a 1.6lt.
Any help would be appreciated
Save your money on turbocharging the 1.6L and buy a mk4 GTI. You'll get the turbo setup done properly (by VAG) and you'll have a larger engine being a 1.8L (oh, and also a better interior, wheels, drivetrain etc.). The money you spend on forced induction on that will cost more than selling your car and buying a mk4 GTI. They are cheap as these days.

MK4 1.6 are known to break gearboxes with the standard engine and normal driving. It might be much easier to sell it and get a GTI.

i was kinda hoping to stick with the car and motor that i've got lol
money isn't a problem just that i'd like keep that i've got
I'm just repeating the above... But don't waste your time or hard-earned giving the 1.6 forced induction. Buy a GTI and be done with it. There's so much potential and parts already.

Don't nessecarily need to buy a GTI, but rather I'd look out for a stacked GTI.
and then just swap the eng, box, brakes & suspension bits [as allowable, according to the damage to the donor car] & hey presto. Get it chipped while you're at it, and you'll be laughing!
Well I hope money is not a problem because you're going to need a lot of it when your car starts breaking (gearbox, clutch etc.). As said above, these are fragile internally even with the monsterous 1.6L.
I just don't understand what you are after here, a unique mk4? Because a turbo'd mk4 is nothing original. As I said, your car will end up costing more than a mk4 GTI, but it will still be slower, and inferior quality
Then come resale, no one will want to pay a premium on a 1.6L aftermarket turbo'd mk4 Golf when they can just get a standard turbo'd unmolested mk4 GTI, for what i'm guessing would be about the same sort of money.
All I can say is best of luck to you sir, but please have a serious re-think.

Ditto everyone else. 1.6 is known to be troublesome with gearboxes in particular. If you really want to keep the car, find a front cut. But honestly, you're better off from an engineering, financial AND comfort perspective if you were to just buy a GTI (which have nice recaro seats, climate control, better suspension etc)
Just buy a GTI.
