    CAI installation question

    Hi guys,
couple of questions... I'm looking to install a BMC CDA air intake.
The model that i'm looking at says it's specifically for cars that have a MAF part number of PBT-GF30. I checked mine and it says PBT-GF on the top, but nothing else?? Does anyone know if there were multiple versions?

Also, given that I plan on removing the factory airbox, I notice it has a sensor of some description on the side. What's this for? Does it need to be retained?

    Cheers guys!!

Yeah, I was told that too...
I've found a source in Europe that have 2 models. One is the generic fit CDA85-150 with a 70mm joiner. The other is the CDA SP-05 which specifically states the 1.8T 150/180 and is designed to mount directly to the MAF.
Cost was just over $400au landed.

The thing with 2 plugs on it in the side of the air box lid is an ignition amplifier I believe.

Can't answer your question on the MAF, I do know that the 150 and 180HP engine have a 2.5 inch housing and the 210-225 hp models run a 3 inch. I wonder if that's the numbers you are looking for?

as ive had a few tonight I cant answer your question fully, but the amplifier that is bolted on the side is a temp sensor.leave it hanging away from anything that will make it hot.pm dub20v as he has a CAI setup and should be able to answer most of your questions.
if I think of anything more ,ill post here when I sober up tomorrow!

Will the generic one fit on the Bora V6 ? 400 $ landed is dirt cheap ... maybe a group buy....

I'm not sure... The BMC website states that it is for cars over 1600cc, so I guess it fits that criteria...

Here is a link to the generic one

And the specific model for the Bosch PBT-GF30

Here is a list of all MK4 Golf/Bora models

Interesting they specify the 150hp ans 180hp models differently? Do our cars need/have a crank case filter?

What do you think of the Carbonio ? There is quite a selection out there. I guess you have to go with whatever is marketed best

Can't say i've really looked into the Carbonio too heavily, as I want something that doesn't sit in the front footwell. I've heard (not experienced, not backed up however) about hydro-locking etc, so would like something enclosed.
I like the BMC too as although it has the carbon case, it doesn't look too blingy and aftermarket.

I'm going ahead and ordering 2 of these in (the CDA85-150), so if anyone is interested in the second one feel free to PM me. Cost will be $420 landed, which is pretty good as I was quoted around $650 locally + installation. I believe the only other part required will be a silicone adapter to go from the 85mm BMC to the 70mm MAF intake. These can be picked up from virtually anywhere.
