Thread: CAI installation question

  1. #11

Has anyone gone from the modified air box to the CAI? I can't see that the difference would justify that price to me. Yes - the CAI looks so much cooler but I doubt the gains would be all that great. The modified airbox work purfect for a turbo as it has plenty of insulation from engine heat and the filter would have just as much surface area as a pod. Master mechanics - give us the low down.....

I reckon I would be interested in the other BMC. What is needed to make it work with the V6 Bora, anyone know ?

I am still waiting for pics on how to do the modified airbox mod

I'll go and take some snaps tonight but its as easy as Geelong winning the grand final!

All you need to do is remove the airbox (2 or 3 screws), get some 3" flexi tube from your local car-mart, cut some of the plastic away from behind your headlight, feed the tube through and shove the other end into your air box where youve plucked out the crapy plastic thing that currently feeds it.

    Piece of punjabi!

I read a really interesting thread from the Polo guys with some very scientific and measured results between the factory intake and a Seat one. Also interesting to note was that the factory filter was actually quite good as it didn't restrict flow too much.
Not sure if there's a similar airbox we could use?

I guess for me i'm after a 2 fold result.
    1. Increase in power and throttle response
    2. That great induction noise you get

If you really want the noise then go the pod, but if your purely after the gains at a 10th of the price then just modify your airbox. Moddified airbox will cost you all of $30 where as a proper CAI setup will set you back $400+.

And apparently you have to relocate the battery to make room for the POD.

You could perhaps route the pod further down behind the front bar?

Perhaps, I haven't looked at it in great deal... that's just going off what one of the shops in Melb told me.

Am I missing something, or is there a thread on how to do the Airbox modification ?
