    A/C fluctuating airflow

    Hey All,

the A/C airflow on my Bora is fluctuating randomly and is especially noticeable when the fan is on above 3. This occurs on AUTO or ECON. Any ideas what this could be?

    TIA!

Both auto and econ will vary the flow according to what the system perceives to be the requirement.

Change the fan speed manually to take the system out of auto mode, set it to 3, and see if it continues to vary (it will likely vary to start with as the system adjusts itself - after 10 seconds or so, it should have settled down).
    Nothing to see here...

Yes, this is what I meant to say - it will vary up and down continuously, regardless of wether it is in Auto, Econ or Manual. It litterally will blow full fan for 1 to 2 seconds then at a much lower speed for anywhere from a few seconds to 1 minute, then full speed for a few seconds....

Could be the flapper motor. I beleive it regulates the flow of hot/cold air in your climate control system.

Mines been having some issues for ages. It makes a bit of noise once in a while and throws a fault code with a vag com scan. It might be worth your while running the vag com on it. The flapper motor can be recalibrated, but mine seems to far gone.

My car has had your symptoms occasionally as well. I've assumed it's probably related to my flapper motor issues, but i could be wrong.

I'm going to get a replacement when i can spare the cash (i.e. stop spending money on mods for two cars). The dealership priced them at $308 a few months ago.

hmmmm.....so it might be worth getting a scan. It was scanned on Friday as a coil went, but they didnt say anything about any other error codes, however it was a portable scanner, so without going into the right section they may not have seen the error code I guess.

There's has been this weird intermittent electronic motor ticking noise behind the glove box for a while now, which I am sure is related.

Seems to be a lot of info out there on this fault.....if it is the Air Flow Flap Motor, anyone have any idea on the part number?

Yep, that sounds like the flapper motor. If they do a full scan it should show up. You might be lucky and a re-calibration will fix it.

    Thanks for the info mate.

Did some more reading up on the issue and it seems it's linked in with the recirc/fresh air motor. I tried turning recirc on and the air flow comes out at a constant rate and at full speed. As soon as I change to fresh air it flactuates madly. So I guess the good news is the A/C will operate in recirc and me and the gf wont be sweating our a$$e$ off on our 4 hour drive down to the sth-east next weekend

Anyone know what size torx driver you need for the glovebox screws?

Oh and these guys seem to have the part for a lot cheaper than what the dealer quoted you...was that price including install?

Hehe...no i just got quoted for the part!

    You sir are a legend.

I have looked at all the usual overseas outlets i visit (ECS Tuning, GAP, etc) and hadn't had much luck finding one. I think i'll order one from your link in a few weeks...
