check out Eibach Springs and Bilstein Shocks for the Bora too....lots of guys here running this combo and everyone raves about this setup. Not a huge drop though (I think I achieved between 15-20mm, low enough for me) but the performance is amazing.

Eibach Pro Kit springs and Bilstien sport shocks is the best money I've spent on my golf! Not a huge drop but no longer spongy!

how do the Eibach and Bilstein shocks differ from the sport shocks?

As in the standard VW sport shocks? Theres no comparison. The standards are way too soft. Too spongey and have way too much play in them. Bilsteins will give a lot better control over all, when cornering you wont get that big dive in then float out that the standards give you.

The Eibach Pro Kit springs are 30mm lower than a standard golf or bora (or 15mm lower than a GTI) and the Bilstein shocks are slightly stiffer and better suited to lowering springs being I think slightly shorter? and a bit stiffer. The combo of the two is great!
I think I saw on here someone was quoted $1400AU or something for the Bilstein shocks from somewhere like Pedders and the Eibach springs are normally about $660AU. I got mine for about $1000AU all up, shocks from ECS and springs from the Eibach Australia clearance store.

Hmm i'm not sure but the dealer said that mine has sports shocks on it and its lowered a fair amount so much that it bottoms out on a fair bit so im not sure if its the stock sports or some after market ones

Talk to Frank at orange tuning in Germany about supersport springs.

Had 'em on my bora for 8 months now and no complaints at all.

    cost about 300 from memory

Correct me if im wrong, but I was under the impression the 4motions had the sports suspension.
I fail to see how this can be true, and also be described as soft

I have a Hybrid setup of Bilstein B8 struts and Mk4 R32 Springs. The springs are Euro spec and therefore are slightly firmer than the Aussie/US Spec that R32's were sold here with...

Overall, a very compliant ride, no crashing or bouncing over undulations. The other strong suggestion is for uprated sways, I have gone with Neuspeed 21mm solid bars front and rear, and it seems very balanced through the twisties, most recently confirmed in a run thru Jenolan Caves Road .
