Brake Pads replacement - DIY ?

Hi Guys,

Recently purchased a MK4 - it looks / feels like brake pads and maybe rotors will need replacing soon.

Just wanted your views that with ABS in the modern cars is this a job a handy DIY'er can do. Ive done this so many times with a MK1 and datsuns etc when i was a lot younger and dont mind having a go at this - would appreciate any insight or advice if there is anything more sinister in this job nowadays

Shouldn't be a problem i think. The abs is just a sensor at the back and doesn't interfere with the pads.Only thing that might be different are wear indicators which is just a connector to disconnect. I would say if you've done it before you should be fine.

I've recently done a full rotor and pad change on my MKIV, fronts are an easy job, as mentioned you need to deal with the wear indicators if the new pads are non genuine.

The rears will require a tool (either make like I did or buy) to push back the pistons in the calipers as they need to be pushed and turned at the same time.

If it's the feel of the brakes, a bleed may fix the problem without new parts.
