    brake pad wear monitor

My brake pad wear monitor warning lamp has come up.

I was surprised as the pads aren’t that old (approx 15K km), so I took the wheels off to check them.

There’s definitely plenty of pad left. Any suggestions why the wear monitor lamp would be coming up or how to check it? I'm guessing the monitoring system is electrical? does it alarm when a circuit is made or opened?

I'm pretty sure there's a wire which runs through the brake pad and when your pads wear down enough this wire will be cut causing an open circuit which in turn triggers the warning. Bear in mind though that if you have aftermarket pads installed this may be bypassed. If this is the case the normal way is to just short each end of the connectors together to complete the circuit.
If you have plenty of pad left and they're OEM pads then I would guess you have an electrical fault somewhere or a connector on the pads could've come off. Have a poke around and see if you can find a loose connector on one of the brake pads, otherwise take it to whoever looks after your car.
    Cheers,
    Trent

Thanks for that. Yes OEM pads. Went down the 'have a poke around' route and the warning light has gone out for now. Perhaps it was just loose connections or something.
I'll see now it goes and keep that idea of just joining the connectors in mind if necessary, but hopefully the warning light will stay off now.
