    Lowering a Golf IV Sport

I am happy with my car, but it sits a bit too high for me, both from a visual and handling point of view.

I don't want to drop the car too much as I don't want to scrape along ramps, speed humps and have doors hit kerbing. I know of an Ebach lowering kit that drops the car about 30mm. The factory sport suspensions typically drop the car about 15mm to 20mm. There is obviously a reason why the factory springs don't drop the cars too much.

What would my options be for a mild lowering of a Golf Sport? Ebach, Factory GTi springs or possibly height adjustable shocks like Konis?

If you speak to Andrew or anyone with a mk4 they will tell you that once you lower the car with a good set of springs or kit the difference will be astonishing.

Also depends how much you want to pay really, do you want coilovers or just a simple cup kit?

The Eibachs are probably a good choice given your concerns. 30mm is a nice drop without being far enough to start causing other problems. To be honest, on a MK4 if you go much more than that, although it might look good, it can affect the geometry to the point where handling actually becomes worse. Plus, once you get near 40mm or so you can have front sway bar/drive shaft rubbing issues.

    Cheers,

    Snowy.

    hi nkoulban,

just checked the H&R catalogue and it says sport performance springs PART no VA 29526-1 (yellow) lower the car by 35mm approx.

height adjustable shocks ??? is there such a thing? or do you mean COIL OVERS?

    H&R coilovers lower from 30mm to 70mm.

im running at least 55mm lower and have no issues.,,just learn to take it easy on ramps! and handles awesome !!!

I explored the weitecs as a possible option. Yes they were cheaper, but that cost was offset as soon as they needed to be re-built. Just something to consider.
