There is a certain process to gaining connection (which I always forget).. From memory, you need to

Disable your WiFi on your PC.
Car will need to be switched off
Connect the cable
Open VCDS
Turn the key I think to "ACC" (reds on) or Start the car
Then in VCDS you need to go to Options and run a test to ensure connection.

If you're doing an Auto-Scan don't forget to select your chassis (1J2 for Bora's) it won't auto-detect

Have you looked at this, I was under the impression you could match keys in VCDS?

Thanks mate, the problem is VCDS does not retrieve the immobilizer pin. VAG Tacho does which I am not sure if it needs its own connector or I can use the Ross-Tech USB connector
