    Bora V5 auxiliary pulley noise

    Hello Volks

    On Friday the auxiliary belt (hopefully I call it correctly, it's the belt on the left side of the engine that drives all those pulleys) on my Bora V5 decided to split itself down one of the groves and half of it shredded. So I got it replaced on Saturday.

    But then I notice a noise has developed since the new belt has been put on.
    It's this ticking and knocking noise that when the engine is idling, it comes on once every half minute or so for 5 seconds, and when I'm driving or reving the engine, it comes on more often and ticks quicker depends on the engine rev. Sounds like the noise comes from one of the pulleys down under (the engine output pulley?) It's very annoying, I don't know if anything attached to these pulleys are damaged or unbalanced.

    Trouble with this is the aux belt pretty much drives everything, so makes it harder to eliminate. I would takle the belt off check for excessive movement at the water pump pulley. if all ok spin up the alternator pully and listen . The clutch pulley might be on its way out, done a couple of them for that, but couple of water pumps too so see how you go, thats an online bit of guidance.

    I had a look just now, the belt is driving the alternator pulley, but the alternator coils inside stay still. So I guess the clutch of the alternator has packed up?

    The coils are the stator, they are supposed to be still, it is the rotor within that spins. The rotor is attached to the pulley in the front of the alternator. There is no alternator clutch.
