i have a feeling these are horrendously expensive from VW. Best to go to a towball place or fabricator to make it, I'm told.

I need one too (god i need a lot of things) to tow my go kart.

I researched this before buying my latest Bora.

Basically, Hayman-Reece make one but you will be stung badly for installation.

    Apparently it is a NIGHTMARE

Best bet is to go OEM or to buy one with a bar already on it...

I installed my own Hayman Reese towbar. Pretty straight forward actually.

Only two holes to drill inside the boot.

The towbar replaces the crash bar inside the bumper cover.

There's six bolts in all, two through the floor of the boot, two through existing holes in the chassis rails and the last two pick up two of the crash bar bolt holes.

Tail lights have to come out to get to the bumper cover bolts.

Installation can be done in an afternoon in your driveway.

Mind if I ask what everyone's thinking anyway - How much to purchase?

I would have mentioned the price, but I forgot how much I paid!

I just pulled out the receipt, the bar was $500 from the One Stop Shop Australia.

Got a Hayman Reese bar on my 4motion a couple years ago, from memory it was $550 installed! Took the better part of the day but the installer did a top job

Make sure you order the right bar, the boot floor is different between the 4MO and 2WD cars.

Capacity is 1400kg with a ball loading of 85kg.

Trailer wiring on these cars is simple too, there no issues with LEDS or can bus or warning lamps etc, a simple tap off the loom does the trick.

I didn't want to break into the cabling and found that there's actually extra connectors on the back of the tail lights where you can pick up all of the connections.
I hacked up an old MK3 wiring loom for the connectors and crimped them onto a ready made flat cable and trailer plug assembly I picked up at a trailer shop for under $20.

Makes me feel a bit sorry for the Tig owners and the silly prices they have to pay to get the electrics working.
