    Bora Questions

    Hi Guys

My name is mat and I just had a few questions regarding the bora

I have the opportunity to buy a bora 4motion v6 for $600, the reason it is this price is that the owner went through a puddle and the air filter got water in it and it died, so I presume it has been hydralocked. I really like the look of the car, lowered with nice wheels etc.

the issue is I need a car fairly urgently, so I wouldn't have the time to rebuild or replace the engine in this car

    my questions are:
if I was to buy a v5 bora, is the stud pattern the same, would the lowered suspension fit from the v6 4motion?
is the v5 is easier/cheaper to service, repair, replace parts etc than the 4motion

once I have a daily then I can turn my time to fixing the v6 4motion

is there any other engine that will go in the bora 4motion that are easy to find/install and preferably newer?

    thankyou for your time
    Mat

I believe the stud pattern across all the MKIV's (Golf/Bora) are the same.
The suspension on the V6 AWD is different to the V5 FWD

Don't think you can really compare servicing, they're too completely different beasts. V6 AWD, 6sp. -VS- V5, FWD, Auto/Manual???
Much the same besides the extra plug and the Haldex. Brakes are larger on the 4mo as well.

The MK4 R32 engine will slot right in but they're hard to find and cost a bomb. With a little work the MK5 R32 engine will also go in but a few things need to be modded, best to talk to Bug_Racer on the forums here, his the man for this conversion here in Sydney. A MK5 R32 donk is relatively cheap and easy to source these days, going price is normally $1,500 - $2,500. I think a member on this forum has one for sale atm actually. Check the classifieds.

I think the degree of difficulty of this conversion will depend on what version of V6 is currently in your 4motion. The older ones have a single coilpack, the later have individual packs.

thanks for your reply, with the servicing question, I just need to know that if I was to buy a vr6 as a daily would I be able to get parts for it if anything went wrong or would I be waiting for weeks to get parts, whereas with the v5 would I be able to get parts easier?

    Thanks
