Hey
My cupholders in the dash are jamming up at the moment. They open up if you give the dash a bit of a whack but is there a way to get it working smoothly again that people have found. Im going to try some graphite powder as i have heard that can work but was just wondering if anyone has any quick fix's

Do you know what its jamming/jamming on exactly? I find mine hits the empty shelf above (not that i use the front ones anymore after a incident with a mug of hot coffee)
Maybe pull that out and see whats going on in there. the cup holder unit itself should be able to be pulled straight out also
I'll have a look at it by pulling it out? How do i go about removing it? Just remove the trim pieces around it and find all the screws etc like a stereo?

Not sure if a link to another forum is allowed here but I don't see any point duplicating information!
VWVortex has an awesome list of DIY threads for the MkIV here:

Under the Interior section is this thread:

That should tell you exactly what you want to know. And no, you don't remove the side trim, it is not screwed in.

To remove cupholder (taken from above thread). Just locate these two clips on either side by lifting up the trim flap:
You just hook out the clips towards the centre with a small flatblade screwdriver so they unclip and then the whole cupholder will slide out towards you when you pull it..
Cheers all. Will tell how it goes

Got it out fine and put some graphite powerder on it but i think its actually the pocket hitting it causing the problem so looks like i need to get my stereo quicker
