Mine sort of did it with the radio but thats because i was messing around with that all. Heard a buzzing sound from the climatronic but just disconnected the cables and its worked since. Maybe have a look at doing that.
Hey all
I've recently picked up a '01 Bora 4mo (no pics yet - maybe when I get home from work and it's still daylight), and have noticed that none of my centre console lights up when the headlights are on.
Climatronic doesn't light.
Backlight of the tapedeck (which I'll be replacing soon) display works, but none of the buttons light
Lights for ESP, Hazard, and Rear demister don't come on, and neither does the dials for the seat heaters (do these even have lights?). Rear demister light comes on when it's on, but that's all.
My guess, because this is a reasonably widespread problem, in multiple components, is that a signal wire is broken somewhere.
Does this sound like a reasonable possibility, and if so, how would I go about fixing it? I went through the VWV list of guides and such, and haven't really found much (and half of those guides have broken image links now anyway)
Thanks for any help
I'll get some pics when the car gets a wash and there's some daylight

Is your cigarette lighter socket pushed all the way down?? I had the exact same problem and couldnt figure it out for months, looked through every single fuse in the car multiple times. Found that sticking out a little bit and once I pushed it down, they came on like magic! I dont think Ive ever been so excited about interior lights before lol. So maybe check all your lights are plugged in as well, like that and the one in the glove box etc, cos to me it seems like if ones not in all the way they all go out
