Bora 4motion VR6 into an endurance racer

    Hi all,
I have a 2002 1Jz that I want to turn into a budget endurance racer.
I am an absolute newby to these VW's so I need lots of help to get this as reliable as possible to be able to handle 24 hour racing. (Check out Motor Events Racing).
First thing I need to do is replace the sump as the one on it is cracked. Is there a baffled sump available?
It has coilovers on it already. But I have not checked what brand they are.
I will be pulling the interior out and changing the wheels to something suitable.

I would go after the cooling system first, all sorts of plastics on these will be ready to let go once pushed.

I would do the "crackpipe" to the metal replacement (022121050) and maybe add the aux cooler the R32 has 1J0121212A, and all plastic cooling system parts.

If you are going full racecar, AC delete it to get more airflow to the radiator.

For other ideas, check what the same mk4 R32s had at the time, brakes would also be a point to check (no point going fast, if you can't stop)

I priced up some r32 brakes this week, jesus. Would be worth looking at a Brembo conversion. Never seen a baffled sump for a VR. Would be looking to America for that.

The MK5 R32 sump is baffled from factory, will need to change the oil pump to suit as well.

Brakes - don’t waste time or money on R32 calipers. Look at the plethora of brembo options.

Thanks for the heads up on the cooling system.
I have to be careful on the amount of mods I make as this changes what class I will compete in.

Have you heard if there air any oil starvation issues when chucking a VR6 around?

Hey HaydEn, sorry to jump in on another thread...

I messaged you to see if you knew of any Coilovers/Cup kits for a MK4 Golf? (but VWW says you're over your inbox limit, as was I).

    Front shock struts are gone.
I'm up in Newy these days, so thought you might be the guy to ask up here?
(but I'll definitely drive to Sydney etc for parts).

I started a thread for it here... any suggestions from anyone, greatly appreciated.
Replacement Coilovers, New? Second Hand? Where? Please help.

Apologies for the thread hijack. Carry on...

As Haydo said, MK5 R32 has a baffled sump. To swap it into a MK4 you need the sump, pump (including pickup), dipstick and dipstick tube. It's all direct fit, no mod needed.

And Yes, friend of mine cooked his Bora 3.2 down at Winton Raceway few months ago, oil starvation after 2 consistently sharp corners in the same direction from memory.
