    Bora 4motion insurance cost

So my new 01 Bora 4motion is costing me $33 a fortnight (about $850 a year) for comprehensive +no excess on window replacement and maximum no claim bonus protection for life.

Of course it is totally stock. I don't plan to mess with the engine at all but would like to lower it a touch and put some 17" or 18" wheels on.

How much more can I expect to pay for insurance once I start modifying it? Is there a decent insurer that doesn't look unkindly on modified cars?

With previous cars I have not mentioned modifications to the insurer but I was probably risking them refusing to pay in some cases if I had been in an accident.

I use RACV, as long car is legal and I list all the modifications they are happy, they dont however cover the modifications, just the car using said mods.
Costs me ~$800 for full comp i think including wheels, lowering and sounds system and both my dad and I as drivers.
Im 22 if that makes any difference?

Thanks for that info, I guess I just assumed the insurance cost would rise as the modifications were made, never considered they would just cover the car minus the mods.

Although I don't have a Bora, I have found that some insurers have no problems with mods... I pay $880 a year for my Polo GTI with all mods covered, and mine is pretty modified too (wheels, lowered, chipped, aftermarket engine parts... I am insured with AAMI, and they have been great to deal with.

    I just re-insured my Bora 4mo with Youi... $440

it mostly sits in the garage during the week and I'm an old fart with a reasonable driving history...that explains the cheaper rate.

Wow, ....just Wow!! $1300 for insurance and a $3000 excess, that is incredible.

Did you run down an Insurance company executive or something?

I would start shopping around, surely you could do better than that.

I have an extra $200 excess (on top of the regular $600 excess) as a secondary driver on the policy for my wife's Subaru because I have had 3 speeding fines in the last 3 years, but with the same company the Bora has a normal excess with me as the main driver.

I have been really happy with QBE, especially the way they let you pay fortnightly and nominate which day of the fortnight you want to pay. I was with GIO before and they were good but they wanted to slap me with a $600 "punitive excess" when I got my license back after losing it for 9 months (this really makes me sound like a bad driver but all up we are talking about less than 10 speeding fines in the last 24 years, just quite a few close together) so I switched to NRMA who would increase my no claim bonus every year but would claw back any savings by increasing the base cost by about 30% more than the savings from the increased no claim bonus.

NRMA fought really hard when I tried to cancel too, they spent an hour on the phone telling me why I should stick with them before I demanded they cancel the policy immediately or I would call the Dept of Fair Trading, they even escalated it to a supervisor who called me back and went at me for another 10 minutes.

$1300 does seem a lot! How old are you?
I pay $900 or so per year for my R32 (about $80 a month) with all mods covered incl the stereo and the radar detector and my missus is covered too, and she just turned 25.
Shop around mate, im sure you can get a better price
