Bora 4motion Haldex Servicing

Hey All,

The time has come for the Bora to get its scheduled Haldex service (oil + filter).

But, I have a few questions before I look into this.

1) What is the job like for someone with a BASIC knowledge of car mechanics to take on?
2) How much are the supplies (oil and filter) and where are these available in Aus?
3) If I were to take it to a dealer, how much should I be paying?

Theres a diy on it here I changed the diff fluids in my 4 mo today and took pictures.

ECS offer a supply kit Volkswagen R32 MKIV 3.2 > Maintenance > Drivetrain > ES#7998 Haldex Service Kit With Tool - 02D598558. I've never done the job but I believe you need that specific spanner for it. Not sure where you'd find it in aus though.

You can get the tool off Ebay for about $45.

It's not totally essential, but you can get by with a set of multi-grips. You'll need to remove the front diff mount, and loosen the bolts that hold the front of the subframe in if you go down that path.

I brought the tool and was well worth it, and you don't want to strip the outside thread with grips then you have to deal with trying to get the oil in

I didn't bother with the tool and although a little fiddly it wasn't to painful. I used a hammer and chisel to get the old filter out because the whole thing is replaced so damaging the old didn't matter. Once it was loose i got to it with fingers and span it out. I didn't have to remove any other parts to get to it.
Putting it back in was slightly harder because I had to be more careful. I got it as far as possible with fingers and then from memory managed to get a ratchet spanner to it (ring end) to finish it off.
As for refilling the oil I 'adjusted' an old hex key putting an extra bend in it and that worked fine.
