    Wink Bora 4 Mo "restoration"

I had a thread in the newbies section, but I thought I'd start one here too.

Since my last post, I've put back in some original tail lights which look a lot better in my opinion - I put a pic of the originals. I'm having a change of heart on the black headlights - I think they give the car an Audi appearance and they have started to grow on me. If anyone likes the black style ones - I have a complete new set to sell.

During the ridiculous storms we had a month ago, the drivers side floor was 2cm deep in water - but I think that is due to an uneven seal on the drivers door - which I will get sorted when I get the respray done.

It has been to the mechanics recently for a service. My mechanic called me after 2 hours and said that they were the worst spark plugs he had ever seen. They were still stamped with the VW/Audi logos and looked like they hadn't been changed in 10 years.

Also told that one of the thermo fans is loose and the whole thing will need replacing (any advice on where to find a replacement? Ive contacted a euro wrecker in smithfield so far), the control arm nolathene bushes are split, the sump plug was reamed out and had a temporary coil put in (which had crapped itself), and a few other things that will need sorting in the near future. Still - could be worse.

I managed to get down to Bathurst over the weekend and do a few low speed laps of Mount Panorama - first time there and it was great to be on such a historic track. Like driving on butter too - only thing that ruined the experience were 2 sneaky cops who set up radars at the end of long straights at the bottoms of hills - bit of a shame that the drive to the track from Oberon gave me more chances to activate the traction control than the track did

It has turned into more of a restoration than a build - I'm getting weird about cracks in the wood panels in the interior (Incidentally - any advice on where to get some new wooden panels for the door handles?). Just enjoying the effortless grunt, the growl under acceleration (which could be a bit louder) and the solid feel of the car.

Could still use a new set of rims though. And an exhaust. And a cold air intake. And maybe some progressive rate springs. And maybe......

Looking good man! I can give you some local knowledge, if you wanna have a bit of fun on the track stay the night and go for a run 4-5am. I've done my fair share of laps

Let the restoration journey begin! I know this all too well for myself. I've just about had to overhaul my bora and still am in the process.

It's a love-hate relationship but at the end of the day - these are very unique cars with serious character.

Get a good set of wheels, suspension and a R32 or miltek exhaust. You will never be able to say goodbye to her!

Here are the spark plugs - kind of speaks volumes for the vehicle if it still ran well with these still in it.

Great tip Feenie! - I'll have to remember that. In the mean time, I'm happy that I was able to keep 60km/hr through the essess despite the ESP kicking in.

Wouldn't mind a trip to Wakefield Park at some point - I'm out of town for the Nationals which is a pisser. Anyone on here do any casual circuit racing? Wakefield is the only place I have heard of that does come an try style events.
