    Blow Off Valves, difference Plumb back and Diverter valve ???

    hey guys
    im new into the vw scene, my last r33 gtst got stolen n i picked up a mk4 golf gti 1999 model last week.
    anyway straight to the point, since the transition from jap to euro? ive read many threads
    that states bov's (venting ones) are not good for the engine because of the way the 1.8t was designed? MAF problems, loss of power, long term emission damage etc... ? where jap car everything is bolt on, break and then fix.

    anyway, just starting on the intake side of things, already moving foward with a dry pod filter since the k&n oiled ones arent good for the MAF apparently, just wanna know if i run a plumb back bov, is the same thing as a
    'forge' diverter valve? car is stock everything atm but im jsut after some intake noise since i feel like im a ghost driving such a quite car atm...lol

    im on gold coast so not many places to get these 'forge' dv which everyone is recommending each other towards, or that i know of?

    my first option are the basic jap, turbosmart / dr!ft etc plumbback bov's ....

    so what do you guys reckon???

    On my old Audi A4 B6 1.8TQ I had the Go Fast Bits Hybrid BOV. It was set up to have the loud, and fully sick vent to atmo ppsssshhhh and didn't affect performance. Not sure if it hurt the turbo in the long term though as I sold the car shortly after. There are heaps of threads with arguments about this subject.

    Def no problems with recirc/plumb back. I have a Forge-alike if you want one. I am up in Brissy but might be past the GC at the weekend.

    Blow off valves and diverted valves are basically the same thing, they both release pressure from the intake tract. The forge diverter valves are quality pieces and are piston based valves so are very strong. Forge make two valves for the 1.8t the 007(fully recirc) and the split-r (adjustble recirc/vent to atmos). But any bov should work fine as long as its plumbed back into the intake. Is the car chipped? You probably won't need an up-rated valve unless the boost has been raised from stock

    Might want to see if you can try someones valve first as no 2 cars are the same. i got a Forge 007 with yellow spring (recommended for chipped cars) and if the car was boosting and u took your foot off the accelerator it would buck like a raging bull. Tried green spring (normal non chipped cars) and did the same thing. Fitted stock DV back in and it was behaving again only bucks once in awhile. Others have great success with them. I'm getting a GFB Stealth X which is a hybid and see how that goes.

    but their shipping doesnt seem to include australia? any know anymore info about purchasing forge valves in queensland.. @@

    either that or the typical (haha... ) turbosmart kompact dual port dov
    TURBOSMART: BLOW-OFF and BYPASS VALVES - KOMPACT SERIES

    so to my understanding, running a dual port valve with most of the air recirculated back into the engine wont do the engine/turbo
    any harm.... to an extend? not sure on what to look at .... looking forward to replies as always

    Hey mate

    Forge will ship to Australia, but you have to do the order form online, then they will email you back with a shipping quote. If you don't like the shipping quote, you just cancel the order... It's cheaper than going through an Aussie importer. If you want to go the Aussie importer route, Ian imports them through his company Rennenhaus. He is good to deal with. Forge make alot of stuff for the Mk4 GTI, and they are a quality company... Trust me, you will spend alot of money there!! (I have!!).

    Alternatively, you could just ring Forge in the UK or USA and get a quote for shipping, and buy over the phone.

    I got my 007P from eBay UK. No problems at all and by far the cheapest I could find.

    The car had a GFB when I got it but it was busted and didn't work. It probably needed a rebuild but I've not heard of problems with the forge, and they come in black, which I wanted for the OEM look.

    I'm no expert on this, but Ive read that venting to atmosphere affects the ECU as there are unexpected pressure differentials in the manifold (or something like that).

    I'd do a lot more research before committing.
