How many K's should I expect when I hit the fuel light...
I've had it come up a few times, and I've wandered how far can I go (not that I want to).
Edit - 325km from 3/4 tank last hit out. Driving to work / city.
less than 400
400-500
500-600
more than 600
i get about 450km to a tank using BP Ultimate. Trip computer shows about 12.5l per 100km. it used to be about 13L till i installed the CAI. I think this is pretty good for an R32

Resurrecting this creaky old thread...
First 3000km with Borat and I am averaging 9.5L @ 590-610 per fill. Range to Empty (props to JMac!) showed 60km to go when the refueling message came on. An 8L reserve means the on-board calculations are pretty much bang on with a small but important safety margin so as not to leave you stranded. Ah zose Tschermans sink of everysing...
Although this may give new meaning to the term 'running on vapour'...
Doesn't the MkIV VR6 only have a 62 litre tank? Range to Empty indicated only 10km when I pulled in.
I got 320km's out of the last tank in my VR6, or 16L/100km
The current one is looking close to around 420 or 12L/100km, the GL can get an easy 550km's or 9L/100km.

80,000km 1997 MK3 VR6 manual for sale - www.vwwatercooled.org.au/forums/f23/80-000km-1997-manual-vr6-nsw-sydney-67658.html
MKIV GTI usually pulls a 510-530km around town with a very mixed driving habit (car gets a good blat regularly each tank). On longer trips it will comfortably see 600km. Coming from SA to Vic with some spirited driving along the way saw the GTI return 700km to a tank with a tiny bit of juice left; I was well impressed. Oh, and this is with the climate control on 90-100% of the time.
I only use Shell V Power.
Can someone please confirm that the MKIV Golfs have 55 litre tanks?

yep it's a 55 litre tank.
manual says the light comes on with 7 litres to go.
in my car it actually only comes in with 5 litres to go!!! (learnt this the hard way once, only got 50 k's of highway driving on the empty light, pretty shocking)
can we talk litres per 100km here people???
km's per tank really doesn't mean much when you have different sized tanks, and when you're only talking about the amount of fuel you put in...
my trip to work in my gti gets about 7.6L/100km, 80% motorway, and return is about 8.6 cos slightly less highway on return
but after local driving to shops and stuff on weekends, including my work trips i average 9.7L/100km (trip 2)
certainly not as good as quoted figures from redbook:
Fuel Urban (l/100km) 8.5
Fuel Extra Urban (l/100km) 5.6
i wish!
i use the BP Ultimate 98 RON...
around town i usually get around the 500-550...
recent country trip saw around 650, probably could have got more, but there were about a hundred caravans i had to overtake...

in my 1.6l get around 650 with an occasional lead foot i do regular driving on the motorway and parra road tho
I'm averaging 12.5L/100km in my Bora V6 4Motion (not a GTI I know), so around 480km per 60L tank. I generally fill up with Shell V-Power, occasionally with BP Ultimate, never anything less than RON95.
Nothing to see here...
Nothing less than 95 Octane, 98 when i can get it, around 550-600 per tank.
