Antifreeze smelling mist through air vents

    Hey all,

This afternoon when taking the R for a drive, a 'mist' started coming through my air vents and smelt of antifreeze/coolant. I turned the A/C off but it kept running through. Has anyone else experienced similar? I'm nearly putting it down to heater core?

/If it is the heater core, which i'm fairly confident it is. Are there any negative side affects to the car still being operated? or should it be parked up until it can be fixed?

    Hi Drew,

If you are loosing coolant from anywhere, the issue is that you loose too much and the engine overheats.

Check the level in the expansion tank and watch for any level decrease.

Heater core cracked on my lancer years ago. Got green steam in the air vents. When changed to floor heating it flooded the car and overheated the engine. I bypassed it for about 2 years until fixing before sale.
