    Aircon regas for GTI?

    Hi Guys,

My wifes GTI has no aircon at the moment. Last year I took a road trip to Wagga Wagga (from Sydney) and over the course of the trip it wasn't very cold, but seemed to get warmer as the trip went on.

When I bought the car (with around 110,000km) it wasn't super cold especially compared to my MK5 which is freezing!

Anyway wondering how much a regas costs and if anyone knows somewhere in Sydney to get it done? I did a search but not much luck.

    Cheers.

If its out of gas then it has escaped the system and gone off to kill whales in the antarctic
Regas may be round $80 for the gas although you need to change the reciver/dryer aswell which im not sure about VW's but other makes range from $15 to $40 (try Jayair)
I would be concerned about how the gas got out as this will happen again if the leak is not found......... and if your lucky the gas in the system had die in it as it makes it easyer to find.

Yes well now that I'm driving it and its getting hot I need to sort out the A/C as my wife is now chilling in MK5 comfort while I'm in the slower and hotter MK4!

I was quoted today $185 for regas and dye - sounds like a lot!

I thought my GTI MK4 needed re-gassing or even a new compressor ($= dont ask) but it turned out to be a dodgy sensor. $100 fix FTW.

Run the car and turn the A/C on..... you should be able to see/hear the compressor clutch engage if it dose then its not an electrical issue tho if the system is dead empty of gas then it wont kick in .
All that is required is the system preasure to be checked which takes all of 5min which will point out the direction of the fault , so a plan of attack and costings should be able to be calculated
