Airbag Fault

Ok, so i was mucking around with my euro light switch, wiring up new fog lights to the fog light switch (which by the way are way to bright so im going to wire them to the high beam switch), and i blew the 5A fuse for the instrument cluster/interior lights. Then i noticed that the airbag warning light had come on, i was rather confused how mucking around with the lighting switch could cause that. I replaced the fuse and ran a test with the v-checker that put out a fault code under the airbag section saying "dignostic tool communication failure" so that wasn't much help

Does anyone have an insight as to why the airbag fault light may be on?

I'd try looking at it with VAG-COM Evan. No experience with VAG checker but it sounds like it cannot communicate with the airbag controller.

I can access the air bag module fine on my V-Checker. Not sure what differences there will be between the airbag system in mine and yours but doesn't sound good. Light staying on would normally indicate a fault of some kind.
On a side note it scares the crap out of me when you run a diagnostics check on the airbag module and all of a sudden the airbag light on the dash starts blinking at you.

i would guess if you lost power to any part of the airbag system then it is why the fault code is up.
my wife's new beetle has that up at the moment due to a failed battery that we had replaced. has to go to dealer to get reset apparently.

Yep a power loss to the Airbag ecu there mate, that one will erase fine im sure. Fault will most likely read Term 30 no signal or no voltage, something along the lines.
