Where do you get this info from? Having spent most of my working life in Automotive Parts and having visited numerous factories producing parts for vehicle manufacturers I know this is unadulterated crap. If VW MAFs are "ridiculously delicate" it is a consequence of design not production.

There's little science behind trial and error. Trialling effective and known methods usually works best though; and i prefer to keep my car looking reasonable and stock-ish; so making the bottom of my air box swiss cheese is definately ruled out.
Might just see if i can squeeze a secondary 3" intake pipe through the front of the car, and make a tidy hole for it in the box. Maybe smaller even, as can get smaller piping with less ribs/smoother internally. See how it goes.
yeh at some point iwill do it! I saw a R32 08 with a 400 dollar set....it looked nice no doubt...just carnt justify it.
This guys got the idea, now that's what I call R&D. Pure F### genius.

Hahaha. Did it work?
I'm not sure if it worked, I just found the photo on Vortex in a thread about modding intakes and there was no follow up report (surprise), but how could you put any value in the claimed results from a person who possesses such a level of workmanship and obvious attention to detail.
