    Aftermarket front strut top mounts

    Hey eveyrone,

I have been fighting a losing battle with my front strut mounts.

The original oem strut mounts last about 2 months before they are squished like 0.5-0.75cm. This is further exacerbated with track days. I know this doesn't mean they are stuffed, but i was surprised how quickly they are compressed with aftermarket suspension.

I have tried the seat cupra r mounts and they lasted longer but still went the same way after about 8-12 months.

I have found powerflex offer 2 types of poly strut tops. Blue and black versions.

    Blue:
Powerflex Poly Volkswagen Golf MK4 97 06 2WD TYP 1J Front Strut TOP Mount Bush | eBay

    Black:
Powerflex Black Poly Volkswagen Golf MK4 2WD TYP 1J Front Strut TOP Mount Bush | eBay

Does anyone have any experience with the poly strut mounts. The price is perfectly reasonable, and if they last for a few years that would be great.

    doesnt sound right.
even on super stiff coilovers they dont fail THAT quick.

be keen to see how you find the ride of the poly if you go that way though

Are you telling me yours are strut caps are flush with the mounting strut hole?

In your position I'd be trying the power flex type. I have no experience with using them on the strut mounts But I have replaced my lower control arms with that type of material and you can definitely feel a big difference in control. I'm hoping they last a lot longer than original rubber. Have to wait and see!!!

I had some fail after 2 weeks - went to Wagga Wagga though, so some pretty bad roads.

Don't get the powerflex black bushings - the ride is pretty harsh on bumpy roads (which most are)
    Plus, you get problems:
Problems with Powerflex polybush top mounts - uk-mkivs

    If you do get them:
"I've had to shave a few mm off the bottom of them so they sit to a similar height the standard top mounts"

I'm still yet to cut mine down - the bearing nut and strut top nut keeps loosening off.

    Yeah pretty sure.
Iv done 60k km on the lot now, 50 of which would be on coilovers, other 10k on air.
Stock r32 bushes ftw. I almost want them to give a little, its what ill be replacing to get the car lower
