    Adjust headlights

How do I adjust the headlights on my partners 03 golf. Their electrically adjustable if that makes a difference. Need them higher up than the highest electronically adjustable position. Is their just a screw type adjuster?

So you can use the adjuster to the right just next to the light switch.

But the one were you can adjust it manually is on the lights. From memory it's is in the hole closest to the radiator on each side you can chuck a screwdriver in there and start turning. It's a white cog you will be turning.

If you need a picture let me know

Be VERY careful when adjusting. If you feel any resistance to your turning the Allen key adjuster--STOP.

If you snap the shaft of the adjuster...which appears to be just made of fibre reinforced plastic...you are up for a new light.

The adjuster should be a 6mm Allen key. There is one one the top as you look down and another one on the end of the same screw - There is a sort of mini-differential drive between the two.

There are two assemblies like this on the back, one does the horizontal adjustment and the other the vertical - not sure which is which on your Golf.

Normally with the internal adjuster wheel next to the headlight, you set it to "0" and adjust the lights.

Then when you put a load in the car you move it to 1, 2 or 3 to lower the lights to compensate for the load.

So the trick is to set it to "1" and adjust normally. Then you can wind them up to the 0 position to raise them slightly on dark roads etc.
