Accelerator Pedal Height Adjustment?

Hey All,

Just wanting your thoughts and suggestions on this "issue" I have with my MK4 Golf GTI.

Having just purchased it at the beginning of the year, I thought it would be a good to finally give it a clean and while vacuuming the driver-side foot well area, I noticed that my accelerator pedal has quite a bit of slack/slop, in that I was able to raise it approximately 5cms or so with hand from its normal rest position.

I always thought that the accelerator pedal in the Golf sat alot further beneath the brake pedal and now that I have discovered this slack/slop in the accelerator pedal, I'm wondering if there is a way to adjust it such that it sits higher up?

I'm just taking a guess here, someone correct me if I'm wrong but does that mean the throttle cable could be loose and possibly tightened or cut shorter (the latter seems a bit of a weird method..lol)?
