312mm front brake install .. Need help!

    Hey Guys,

I installed 312mm carriers and rotors last week and fitted a set of A1RM's while I was at it.

All I did was remove the old carriers, and installed the new ones and put everything back on. I used all the previous bolts.

Taking it for a test drive today to bed in the brakes, and from the get go there is this loud scratching noise, like metal on metal...

I thought it might have just been the harsher brake compound, SO I continued and completed the brake bedding process.

But even by the end there was this insane loud metal on metal scratching noise??

My cars brakes are cooling down atm, So I cant remove them just yet.

Was I meant to use some special bolts or spacers?

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Please dont tell me this is what A1RM's sound like!

The noise is constant all the time.

The brakes didnt seem to be as loud as I was driving at 80km/h, but I had the windows donw and maybe wind noise was masking it.

Ill have to check them out when they are cooler. Im just wondering if thats what A1RM's sound like with slotted discs....

That's very weird I've had slotted rotors in my Nissan for a while now and changed many diffrent pads (brands/compunds) and no really seriously noticable noise other then the usual sceetching on braking with harsher compounds , I would take it appart and check it out , althought I figure it would just be a straight bolt on their may be some issues with spacing?

Ok ive noticed that the problem is that the piston is not releasing the pads from the rotor on one side of the car.

Does anyone know how to release the piston off the rotor?

They should withdraw on their own. Try squeezing it back in and then out a touch with the pedal a few times. don't pump the piston all the way out obviously. Maybe put a block of wood in the caliper so it'll come out half way or so.

    Thanks for your help guys,

The problem was the dust cover was scraping the living daylights out of the rotor... jsut bent it back.
