    3.2 v6 options?

The scenario: The Bora needs to go faster, much faster...

The options: Turbo the 2.8 and see what we can squeeze out of it or source a possible 3.2 and go for a full engine build and swap.

Now given this car is a daily driver and I do intend to race it in the sprints around Brisbane I am seriously considering the option of getting a second engine to reduce possible downtime should the engine break for whatever reason. I have been doing a little research and have found the possibilty of the r32 engine being the same as the 03/04 touraeg v6, mk1 TT 3.2 and also the a3 v6 (hints at the possibilty of the cayene v6 also being the same donk with porche goodness). So onto the meat of the topic...

The question: Does anyone know if all these cars do indeed use the same engine (even if there are slight tuning/cam differences) as it opens up a whole lot of possible sources for a doner and is it possible to to just do an engine and ecu swap if the new engine has immo defeat run on it?

I can't qualify that the toureg/porsche 6s are the same, but mk1 TT 3.2, A3 V6 and R32 are all same motor essentially.

Ultimately, if the 3.2 was fast enough, R32 owners wouldn't modify. Ie you could swap to a 3.2, adn then still want to turbo it.

You have the 24V, much "better" start than the 12V. It might not be the 3.2 but a GT30R or even a 35R will still spool up well with the cubes you have. I'd go that option, much more useable than swapping to a 3.2 and the electrics drams that will likely ensue.

Turbo the 2.8, you have some pretty fresh info to go on with Rob's thread.

The new motor will be turboed, I am just thinking of starting with a 3.2 but depending on avalibility may have to settle for another 2.8

There is just something comforting about a known good engine sitting on a stand just in case the magic smoke comes out of the turbo one day and I cant afford the time/cost to fix itquickly. I have no doubt the stock 3.2 will not be quick enough and have every intention of working the guts out of it, another reason to have a second engine is I can take my time doing the build including possibly some bottom end internals. I know it wont be cheap, especially finding a good motor which will be the hardest part it seems.

They are all essentially the same block with different oil filter mounts etc.

The inlet manifolds are different depending on whether they are longitudinal or transverse as well (not an issue with a turbo )

The Porsche and Audi ECUs won't work in VW however due to other differences, not just the immo.
PM if you are looking for: R32 rear sway bar; R32 suspension springs; Euro Headlight switches

Hmmm, and will a VW ECU work with an audi or porche motor?

Been looking around trying to find a suitable donor car that isnt a 15-20k r32 wreck, if I wanted an r32 I would just buy one hence this little topic. Looking at straight swap options should I want to put the stock motor back is also leading me to believe I will need a new loom as well to keep things simple.

Anyone have experience importing engines from the uk at all? Tey seem to crash lots of nice cars over there and there are lots of bits that could be used on our cars.

I only know of a few people that have r32 motors and they are not cheap! the last one I heard was $4500 air freighted here from the states...short block.

I also have one...but then I need to re-build it and I'm running a stand alone ECU too! $$

If I really thought long and hard before I set my heart on an NA r32 I would have just turboed the VR6 I had...Cheaper and way more power!!!

I do expect starting a turbo build with a 3.2 vs a 2.8 will cost an extra 5-6k and that there is a chance stand alone managment is required further increasing the cost but it would be one hell of a cool project which is what I am after. Even getting a second 2.8 to build up will cost a substantial amount more than just putting a turbo on the stock engine so a 3.2 isnt too much more really.

All depends on the availability of a donor as too which path I go down. Are the engines from the states compatible with our cars? I thought they had different emission laws etc over there.

nothings legal without extensive engineering...talk to engineer and see what they have to say!

Yeah engineering can be a pain but given the Bora is basically an A3 chassis and they were fine with the 3.2 plus the R32 and Bora have a lot of interchangeable parts I dont think it will be to much of an issue.
