On very minor gains. If your keen on spending money do a 3.6 liter conversion or go turbo!!!!
Thats because they havent played around with the engine to know that they are quite a capable engine
The main advantage is that they dont run the proper VVTI which has the cam gears as part of the VVTI limiting what you can do to the camshafts . The AUE engine runs the older more conventional camshafts which you can have made to whatever specification that you want . You can use the remainder of the Valvetrain out of a 3.2 mk4 R32 engine to get bigger valves . The head casting is different so you cant swap the heads over and run the older style chain (unless youre willing to weld the new head ) . If you arent chasing a 9000rpm engine with 280+ degree cams then the easiest would be to source a mk4 3.2 with engine bay wiring harness from either an R32 or a later 2.8 Bora and an ecu to suit . A 3.6 presents a bit of a nightmare in such an old car as its FSI so you'd need to run a different fuel rail not to mention it runs a non-return fuel system with a different can bus signal .
