    2004 Bora audio setup help

*repost from other forum as i got 1 reply in over 2 weeks*

I am currently installing a new sound system in the car.

At the moment it has a "gamma" radio and cassette player and a single cd player above it.

I want to change to a double din size unit.

I understand you can cut the audio connectors, and re-solder the new generic connector to it, this however is not an option, as when i sell the car, i will be returning it to stock.

    So the questions are :

1 where can i get a suitable wiring iso block in Australia.
2 will this turn the system on and off with ignition, or will i have to provide a switched power feed (seen this in many youtube jetta vids)
3 where can i get a good quality double din facia adaptor in australia,
4 anybody done a guide for this ?

    Sorry for all the questions,

Car is 2004 VW bora V5

I then came across a vid on youtube of an american guy (with a grey bora with green plastidip wheels) who did a vid however the iso block on his car it totally different

    Update
Hey guys, received my removal keys today, pulled the unit out.

Just to confirm, i have a Gamma radio cassette, and a separate single din vw branded single cd unit.

I looked at the above video that you posted, thanks for that. However my wiring setup is sliglty different.

I have 2 standard looking iso connectors, and a standard looking right angled female areal connector, also the multi coloured external cd player connectors (not the all in one vw plug shown in vid.

the External cd player has a lead that goes to the gamma (the multi coloured one) and a strange looking cable with only 2 wires (grey and brown) that disappear below my steering wheel.

    My question is this.

Any ideas of the purpose of the leads coming from cd unit ( i dont have steering controls etc)

and i would assume, that i will be using a standard iso connector to connect to the head unit, will i still have to take the 75X feed mentioned in the above vid.

    Has anybody tackled this??

You are very unlikely to find an Oz source

eBay or direct purchase from UK are more likely options
(I had to do this with my Mazda3)

Here is an example, VW Bora car to DIN adaptor cable and Facia Plate
Volkswagen Bora Double DIN Facia JVC Steering Wheel Adaptor Car Stereo Kit | eBay
2012.1 Skoda Octavia VRS DSG Wagon - Carbonio cold air intake and pipe - HPA Motorsports BBK 355mm rotors 6 pot calipers
APR Stage II ECU - APR 3" exhaust down pipe & high flow catalyst
APR/HP Roll bars - Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks
Supaloy lower control arms - Enkei 18*8 Wheels

Thanks m8, yea i had considered that, might do that, but could go for a cheaper one as dont need the steering wheel control etc,

any bora owners tackled this? I am quite interested in the whole switch power 75x thing ( if required)

Autobarn have a surprising array of connectors and conversion looms - take what you have into them, along with the car and they might have something that will help or can get one in for you

The off the shelf connectors you find at the local auto shops will generally work, and cost about $20.
However, from my experience, they do not have the connector for the lighting switch, which means your stereo will not dim when you have your lights on.
What you can do is buy a universal iso connector from them and solder it to the connector that comes with your head unit.
