Maybe so but unfortunately for you, you can't use that on your bettle.
You could try one of the other options like V-Checker
Rosstech - $99 for a vcds lite or $250 for a full version. Umm go suck a hairy nipple.
I bought nissandatascan with cable full licensed for under $40

Ok got the replacement cable and have the exact same results. I'm assuming something is wrong with my ecu. Next plan burn the car. Has everyone else noticed how poorly built new beetles are? Ours is falling apart rather quickly. It's almost as bad as Citroën standards of construction :@ Stupid VW

So you've bought cables and software that aren't designed for the VW, and you're blaming the car for this problem?
Do yourself a favour, get yourself along to JMac's workshop (he's around Brisbane somewhere), and get him to scan your car for you using the proper tools. If he has problems, then yes, maybe your car is the issue - but you're paying $40 when the real tool costs $250, you cannot be surprised that the result you're getting isn't right...
On the build quality - that's odd, as the Mk4 Golf is generally regarded as the best put together of the Golfs so far (a primary driver for the Mk5 was to reduce production costs as the high quality Mk4 was expensive to build). What parts are falling off - are you talking interior trim, or external trim, or whole wheels, etc?
Nothing to see here...
I own a number of VW's one of which is a new Beetle. I'e had no issues with the build quality, in fact its far superior to the many Subaru's I've owned. So I believe you're incorrect with yoiur statement about quality.
You have been advised many times to use the correct dianostic equipment to resolve the issues wiith the vehicle. Each time you have chosen a different path. What can you expect if you don't take the advise of forum members trying to assist you.
Manaz is correct contact JMac (Forum sponsor) who will be able to assist you.
You're not winning any friends here at the moment.
I will agree that only spending $20 on a cable and software could be a possible issue but electronically there is nothing wrong with either cable, I'm not a software designer so I can't be sure of the software being faulty. As for going to jmac I have my reasons for not wanting to deal with him. And build quality - a majority of the plastic interior parts a have done the usual VW thing and melted and gone sticky, I've cleaned all that off. The big problem is that my glove box has fallen out, my armrest latch has fallen out, my centre console has craked around the accessory socket and it wont stay in and both my interior door handles have broken off. And the out side temp guage doesn't work and the car doesn't recognize that the passenger door has been opened. Also my drivers side brake light only works some times.
The problem with your cable is that it doesn't work with VCDS as it doesn't have a proper licence.
If you want to be able to scan it properly yourself then you need to spend the money. Otherwise take it to someone who has the proper equipment to do it for you.
The problems that you have described with your beetle, are not the type of problems that appear instantly.
Perhaps yours has been run down over time and has not been looked after?
If you bought a cheap one, it may have been cheap for a reason.

Oh and the oil light comes on and beeps every time you start the car.
I accept that wear and tear is usual. But this is beyond a joke. I didnt realize that Citroën owned VW.
