2000 MKIV - Saved from sure automotive death.

My little 2000 1.6 "rally edition" Golfy! here is the story behind my journey to rescue this poor little car. the previous owner had told me it was for one of his family members so he could get to and from work. unfortunately this guy did not take any care whatsoever and ended up breaking several things. first started with the clutch then gearbox and then a suspected head gasket failure. it was either going to be sold dirt cheap or sent to the crusher for scrap, and well you guessed it. i got it for dirt cheap

The day we picked it up. 6 months worth of dust had settled on it was fun washing it for the first time that's for sure!

    All clean!

after cleaning it up it was time for some diagnoses of my own. put some water in it, started it up and see what it does. and bingo! a heap of water starts spewing out of a coolant hose connecter up at the firewall. $30 later she was running like a beaut! gave it a full service and all was good

First day driving it, absolutely loved it. slow, but an awesome car.

few weeks later it dropped all it's coolant on the highway from the temp sender, o ring blew out and that was that. replaced o-ring, & temp sender as it was the green plug one.

    time for some fun things!

new plates, everyone told me red would look stupid on the green. so i definately had to do it then...

nothing really changed until Christmas when my sister, bought me a set of Genuine R32 Aristos! was stoked to have them.

    Ballin on the L plates!

once again a while without any change. just some little things, new rotors + pads, black badges & some carbon fibre interior bits got my p's early January and have just enjoyed driving it since then. have some big plans for the future. including a 1.6 > 1.8t!

also got some bit's off a fellow member, Gti front bar with smooth rub strip, Bonnet, Intercooler and some other bits and pieces.
700km round trip but the parts were dirt cheap so it was worth it in the long run.

    Golfs can carry stuff!

put the black bonnet on as the old one had a sizable dent and clear coat was peeling in spots. Im liking the look, not for everyone but it's nicer then the old one.

Will have some more updates a little later on

    Thank you

Gave it a wash and detail today

    Excuse the messy shed

tomorrows job is to put GTI springs in the rear and see if it does give a 10mm drop like everyone thinks...

great little project. What a great first car

I recently fixed up a mk4 for my sis, but she's not into cars so its just a shopping trolley. I dreamt of putting cool wheels on it for a while, but its nonsense

the paint looks really nice, especially after your detailing efforts.... or is it just the photo's ?
